Class 1 Connemara Ridden 4 & 5 Year Olds. Mare or Gelding or Stallion 4- & 5-year-olds ponies must be ridden by a rider who has attended their 12th birthday by the 1st of January in the current year. Stallions must be ridden by riders who have attended their 14th birthday on the 1st of January in the current year. Pony to be registered in the approved Pure Breed Society Studbook of Connemara. Snaffle bridles only. Prize Fund €500
Class 2 Connemara Ridden 6 – 10 Year Old. Mare or Gelding 6 to 10-year-olds: ponies must be ridden by a rider who has attended their 12th birthday by the 1st of January in the current year. Pony to be registered in the approved Purebred Society Studbook of Connemara. Prize Fund €300

Class 10 Connemara Yearling Inhand Class. Open to registered Connemara fillies / colts / geldings Yearlings. Handlers must have obtained their 16th birthday by the 1st of January 2025. Prize Fund €200
Class 11 Connemara 2 Year Old Inhand Class. Open to 2 year old registered Connemara fillies/colts/geldings. Handlers must have obtained their 16th birthday by the 1st of January 2025. Prize Fund €200
Class 12 Connemara 3 Year Old Inhand Class Open to 3 year old registered Connemara fillies / colts / geldings. Handlers must have obtained their 16th birthday by the 1st of January 2025. Prize Fund €200
Class 13 Connemara Stallion Inhand Class. Open to 4 year old and over registered Connemara Stallions. Handlers must have obtained their 18th birthday by the 1st of January 2025. Prize Fund €200

Championship 1 Champion Ridden Connemara Pony. 1st and 2nd place competitors from each of the Ridden Classes. Including Breeder Prize for Champion Pony. Prize Fund €200
Championship 2 Champion Working Hunter Connemara Pony. 1st and 2nd place competitors from each of the Working Hunter Classes. Including Breeder Prize for Champion Pony. Prize Fund €200
Championship 3 Champion Young Connemara Pony. 1st and 2nd place competitors from each of the Inhand Classes. Including Breeder Prize for Champion Pony. Prize Fund €200
Supreme Championship Supreme Champion Connemara Pony. Champion and Reserve Champion from each of the Champions. Including Breeder Prize for Champion Pony. Prize Fund €500
- All entries through equipe.
- Championships will be held after each section, and the Supreme Championships will follow the completion of the last Championship.
- The judge’s Decision is final.
- All prize funds are paid out on the day. This show is funded under the National Breeding Services of the DAFM and delivered by HSI. All prize winners will be issued a Prize Fund Letter, which they must fill out and submit to HSI. It is the responsibility of the letter holder to claim their prize money.
- No refunds after the close of entries.
- All inhand ponies must be shown in a bridle with a bit.
- All under-16s must wear a back protector for working hunter classes.
- We recommend that all riders wear back protectors in the working hunter jumping phase.
- Correctly fitting riding hat should be worn while mounted.
- No back boots are permitted anywhere on the showgrounds.
- We reserve the right to revise the schedule at any time.
Rules for Oughterard All Ireland 2025
- Qualifying rounds will be held at designated shows.
- Ponies 4 years old and over are eligible.
- More than one pony in each qualifying class may be selected to compete in the final provided the judges agree that the standard is high enough and may qualify a second pony.
- Judge of the day must sign the qualifying entry form (s)
- Pony and/or Rider once qualified are not eligible to participate in subsequent qualifiers in the same category. This rule may be waived by the Show Committee in exceptional circumstances e.g. sale of a pony or injury of rider prior to final. Permission from the Oughterard Show Committee must be granted prior to any previously qualified pony or rider competing in subsequent qualifying rounds. Failure to do so will result in the entry not being accepted.
- On completion of judging at qualifiers the successful qualifier will be given all relevant entry documentation by the ring steward. This must be completed and returned, along with the appropriate fee, to the secretary of Oughterard Show within 7 days – this rule will be strictly adhered to.
- Ponies must be registered in a main Connemara Studbook. The Passport of each pony must be presented prior to judging at the qualifying show and on the day of the final.
- The rider must be 16 years and over on 01/01/2025.
- Jumping over rustic/ natural fences will be part of the qualifying rounds and final. Qualifying rounds require a minimum of 4 fences. Jumps at qualifiers should not exceed 90cm in height and 90cm in width. Entrants from shows who do not adhere to this rule will not be accepted.
- The Final requires a minimum of 5 fences which will include a double. Fences must not exceed 1m in height and 1m in width.
- Ponies to be ridden in a Plain Snaffle, Pelham or Double Bridle. Boots are allowed for the jumping phase only, and must be removed prior to the in-hand or Flat Sections. A running martingale is permitted in qualifiers and in the Final but spurs are prohibited. The same tack must be used in both phases.
- A performance judge must be used at qualifying shows.
- Ponies will be judged on type, confirmation, jumping technique, way of going and action in-hand.
- Random Dope testing may be carried out on the day of the final.
- Any objection must be lodged in writing with the show secretary within half an hour following the completion of the competition, together with €50 which is refundable if the objection is upheld.
- Oughterard Show Committee, in consultation with the sponsor, reserves the right to amend the rules as may be deemed necessary.
- It is strongly advised by the Oughterard Show Society that all competitors should wear a body protector.
- Qualifying Rosettes will be presented at the Final Entry Fee to Final: €25
